Junior surf challenge
14 February 2007
THE
Margaret River Boardriders hosted the inaugural junior surf challenge
this last weekend at the river mouth.
The competition
was against the Trigg junior boardriders and the Mandurah boardriders.
The conditions
were two to four foot with an increasing tide and west
The format saw
no eliminations but each surfer had two heats to gain points for their
club.
The first round
kicked off with two banks operating due to the number of competitors.
Many surfers
were competing for the first time, and being able to surf in the second
round meant they could work out a better approach if necessary.
At the end of
the first round Margarets was 0-1 behind Triggs with Mandurah about 1-5
points in arrears.
In the second
round the Margarets junior lifted their rating to win many heats to
eventually bring them to victory from Triggs to Mandurah.
The presentation
was held at the surf point resort.
With a great
turnout and competitors from eight years to 17 years, the event was a
great success.
A positive
energy was created and hopefully this will be an ongoing event.
The next club
competition will be at 7am on Sunday, February 18 at the Rivermouth.
This will be
followed by the monthly meeting at 7.30pm on Tuesday, February 20 at the
Zone room.
The State junior
first round is at Triggs starting February 24.
There are many
juniors competing from the club this year.
The Kirra teams
challenge will be held on the Gold Coast.
The Jim Beam is
on March 2-4 at Curl Curl in
All club members
wish the team well-hopefully they will bring home the bacon.
Junior coaching
from novices to advanced is going at 4.30pm Wednesdays at the
