Club Competition - February

21 February 2007
THE sixth event for the Margaret River Boardriders 2006/07 season was held at South Point on Sunday.

The light north-east wind wasn't ideal but there were still some workable walls on the inside.

In the cadets Creed McTaggart surfed solid as always to win but was pushed by Joel Hodgson who matched Creed on one of his top two rides with an eight.

Kirin Gibbon stepped up improving his performance to take third with Jackson Chadwick looking good and taking fourth.

Great to see Sean Manners and Jack McAuliffe having a solid dig finishing fifth.

Laura Macaulay carved her way to a win in the Junior Girls with sisters Ellie in second, Bronte third and new member Tamika Hogan doing very well in her first session at South Point taking fourth.

Laura also had a tight tussle with Isabel Woods to win the women's ahead of Bronte, Ellie and Temakia.

In the Junior Boys Mat Baldock continued to dominate looking sharp and quick.

Second and third was super close between Blake McDonald and Tim Nathan (Nice cutties Tim) with Blake getting the nod.

Bodie Sutton who continues to make finals and impress, finished fourth.

In the senior men's some strong turns by Mike "Stomper' McAuliffe defied his 45 years taking first with John 'Tags' McTaggart looking loose with a sick turn after the final coming second.

Well done to Mal Caithness (cheers for the expert judging), Mark ‘Chaddy' Chadwick and Ritchie Davies who were third, fourth and fifth respectively.

In the Pro Junior division Jarrod Davies found the green room and did some strong attacks, winning ahead of improving Reid Leicester in second with Jeremy Howieson and Tom James third and fourth.

In the open division Dave Macaulay edged out points leader Andrew Sheridan to chip away at his strong lead.

Mat Manners carved into third ahead of Jarrad Davies in fourth.

The next club contest is on March 18.

Good luck to all juniors competing in the first State round in Perth this weekend, and the seniors on March 10 at Gas Bay.

Go get ‘em.

Happy surfing.
