18 April 2007

Boardriders club member Matt Baldock placed fifth in the international final rounds of the Gromsearch section of the Ripcurl Pro.

The Pro was held at Bells Beach from Tuesday, 3 April 2007 to Friday, 13 April 2007, and is the biggest and most prestigious pro surfing competition in Australia.

The event holds a very special place in surfing folklore, as the longest running world championship level contest on the World Championship Tour (WCT) - 35 years this year!

The Ripcurl Gromsearch is a series of junior surfing events run over a year in Australia, America, Hawaii, Brazil, New Zealand, Europe, Indonesia and South Africa.

After winning the Western Australian Gromsearch competition, Matt competed at Bells.

Matt's second place in the Australian final then gained him a place in the international heats of the Ripcurl Gromsearch, where he competed against the best junior surfers in the world.

Matt is to be commended for his excellent results in the international Gromsearch competition - a testament to his talent and dedication to the sport.
