LOCAL surfers put in a strong showing at the second Junior State Round for 2007.

This event began with the finals for under 16 and under 18 boys and girls held over from the first State Round in February.

In the Under 18 boys Matt Baldock finished third only needing less than a three point ride to win, but in the inconsistent surf was unable to find it.

Creed McTaggart was totally skunked for waves in the under 16 final finishing fourth.

Laura Macaulay was red hot in the under 18 final scoring an 8.67 to start the heat.

She won ahead of Leah Wright and sisters Bronte in third place and Ellie in fourth.

Laura also won the under 16 final but only just ahead of her sister Bronte who surfed a solid final finishing second by less than one point.

In testing, stormy surf on Sunday Jethro Hedstrom performed with power and precision finishing third overall in the under 18 boys for State Round two.

Matt Baldock looked to be first or second in his quarter final but somehow the judges had him in third.

Blake McDonald scored one great ride with powerful carves in his quarter final but lacked a second good score.

Jai and Areef Walker, Jackson Chadwick, Keeda Skully and Bodie Sutton were pipped in close tussles.

Creed McTaggart surfed with speed, precision and flair to take out the under 16 boys final and the under 14 final.

Jack Robinson was too strong for his fellow competitors winning the under 12 final.

In the under 16 girl Felicity Palmateer won a tight one over a fast finishing Laura Macaulay with Yallingup's Mikala Green doing well in third and Daniella Green fourth.

Leah Wright was too strong in the under 18 girls with Ellie Macaulay second with some stylish carves.

Bunbury's Katie Fletcher had one great wave to finish third with Bronte Macaulay in fourth.

The third and final Junior State round will be held in Geraldton on the June long weekend where the State team will be finalised.

Important Notice - the final Margaret River boardriders club competition will be held this Sunday, May 6 in Margaret River, not Denmark as originally planned.

Please meet at the Rivermouth at 7.30 am.

This is a double A event so big points on offer to decide club champions in each division.

Several of our pro junior competitors attending the High School ball can now compete.
